Legislation Details

The purpose of the resolution is to amend the Navajo Land Policy on Acquisition of Land 16 N.N.C. §§ 1-10, by enacting the Navajo Nation Land Acquisition Act. The amendment would acknowledge that the Navajo Nation has moved into acquiring more industrial and commercial properties rather than only acquiring lands for grazing and consolidating checkerboard areas. The enactment of the Navajo Nation Land Acquisition Act would provide flexibility for the Navajo Nation to acquire and dispose of real property. It also would remove processes and negotiation limits that no longer make sense in the current real estate market. Additionally, it removes limitations on the types of lands that can be acquired to include any real property. If approved the legislation would also amend the Land Acquisition Trust Fund to conform to the purposes of the Navajo Nation Land Acquisition Act.
